A Place of Comfort and Peace for End-of-Life Pet Care
One of the hardest things we have to do as pet owners is to say good bye to our companions. While many will go gently on their own, for others we have to make the difficult decision to end their suffering with euthanasia. At Sunrise Veterinary Services in Alpena, we do everything we can to ease your pet’s passing and your grief with a dedicated room designed with warmth and comfort in mind.
About Ginger's Room
Our pet euthanasia room has a whole lot of heart in it. It was built in 2015 and dedicated to a client’s dog named Ginger McConnell, a poodle who had cancer. She fought hard and received treatments downstate at a specialty facility. She beat the odds and did exceptionally well for quite some time. Despite everything, she still always loved coming to see us. Yet sadly, at long last, it was time for her to go.
Ginger's Room was born out of Dr. Jill Fournier’s desire to relieve some of the grief owners felt at the loss of their pets. She noticed how difficult it was for owners with new pets to bring them into exam rooms where their older pet had been euthanized. Dr. Fournier had heard about a Rainbow Bridge Room and thought our beautiful, large building would be perfect for such a space. By cutting back on some office space, we were able to design a room that accommodates 10 people.
Ginger's Room features:
- Comfortable furniture including a sofa and chair
- A mock fireplace for added warmth
- A wall-mounted waterfall
- A carpet for the animals to lay on
- A table that folds down from the wall for the animals, too
- A separate entrance door for privacy and convenience for our clients
Our goal is to ease the process of end of life pet care as much as possible, and we hope Ginger’s Room provides a level of comfort for both pets and their families.
When it is Time to Say Goodbye
When it comes time to decide if pet euthanasia may be the right choice, we are here to help every step of the way. We can talk with you about your pet’s options, their quality of life, and their level of suffering. Once we come to an agreement for pet euthanasia, we will set up a time for your pet and family to come to Ginger’s Room for the procedure.
We will give you as much time as you need before we administer the euthanasia, which works very quickly. Your pet will feel no pain or discomfort as the euthanasia works in a matter of seconds. Afterward, we will give you additional time to say your final goodbyes.
Aftercare and Remembrance
As a remembrance token, our clinic offers a paw print of each animal who comes through Ginger’s Room. Additionally, one of our clients can make stuffed cats and dogs out of special blankets or bedding items on request. For your pet’s aftercare, we also offer cremation services—just ask.
If you need anything at all or care to learn more about our end of life pet care, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help.
We brought our cat Maizey in for a wellness check and immunizations this morning. The office staff were so nice! Dr. LaCross and Ruth were so gentle with Maizey and were so sweet to her. The services were very affordable. You need to stop by just to say hello to their "Greeter Cats"
Professional and friendly. They treat my fur babies like their own. Very thorough and willing to speak to you about everything.
I came here with my cat and am so happy that I did! They all care so much and are very affordable.
