A place of comfort and peace while crossing the Rainbow Bridge.

We are here for your pet from the time they are born until it’s time to say goodbye.

One of the hardest things we have to do as pet owners is to say goodbye to our companions. While many will go gently on their own, for others we have to make the difficult decision to end their suffering with humane euthanasia. At Sunrise Veterinary Services in Alpena, we do everything we can to ease your pet’s passing and your grief with a dedicated room designed with warmth and comfort in mind.

About Ginger’s Room

Ginger’s Room has a whole lot of heart in it. It was built in 2015 and dedicated to a client’s dog named “Ginger” McConnell, a poodle, who developed cancer. She fought hard and received treatments at both Sunrise and at a specialty facility. “Ginger” beat the odds and did exceptionally well for quite some time. Despite everything, she still always loved coming to see us. Yet sadly, it was time for her to go.

Ginger’s Room was born out of Dr. Jill Fournier’s desire to relieve some of the grief owners felt at the loss of their pets. She noticed how difficult it was for owners with new pets to bring them into exam rooms where their older pets had been euthanized. Dr. Fournier had heard about a Rainbow Bridge Room and thought our beautiful, large building would be perfect for such a space. By cutting back on some office space, we were able to design that room.

Ginger’s Room features:

  • Comfortable furniture including a sofa and chair
  • A fireplace for added warmth
  • A wall-mounted waterfall
  • Carpet for the animals to lay on
  • A table that folds down from the wall
  • A separate entrance door for privacy and convenience for our clients

Our goal is to ease the process of crossing the rainbow bridge and we hope Ginger’s Room provides a level of comfort for both pets and their families.

When it is Time to Say Goodbye to Your Pet

When it comes time to decide if pet humane euthanasia may be the right choice. We are here to help every step of the way. We can talk with you about your pet’s options, their quality of life, and their level of suffering. Once we come to an agreement, we will set up a time for your pet and family to come to Ginger’s Room for the procedure.

We will give you as much time as you need before saying goodbye. Your pet will feel no pain or discomfort as the euthanasia process works in a matter of seconds. Afterward, we will give you additional time to say your final goodbyes.

Aftercare and Remembrance

As a remembrance, our clinic offers a clay paw print of each animal who comes through Ginger’s Room. Additionally, we offer ink nose and paw prints.

For your pet’s aftercare, we also offer cremation services—just ask.

If you need anything at all or care to learn more about our end-of-life pet care, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help.
